Memories…………….

The other day I volunteered at a local school and read to
1st graders. This was part of the Bay Area Chamber’s  ”Reading is Bay County’s Business ”

program which has been happening every March in our city since 2003.

What a great way for business professionals in
our community  to go out and be with  our students.

These kids are our future and
we want to show them how much we care.

I have volunteered every year  and it is
rewarding to see these children  so
excited to have a new adult  with
them.  They love to ask questions and
tell you all about their lives.

The book the teacher selected for me to read was about
Chester the raccoon losing a friend . I had not had an opportunity to read the
book before hand and I was surprised to be reading to these darling children
about the death of Chester the raccoon’s  friend.   The
book went on to talk very nicely and warmly about memories , how to keep them
and remember  them.  After finishing the book , which dealt very
comfortably with the delicate subject, I asked the kids about any memories or
keepsakes they may have.   They certainly
did  have some as all their little hands
were raised. Photographs were the main memory
of loved ones.   It reminded me
how important my job is.  I profess to be a keeper of memories and these children confirmed that fact to me.

profession  will continue to be rewarding
in many ways.
